ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — The Maryland General Assembly has approved a new congressional map.

The map approved on Wednesday for the state’s eight U.S. House districts now goes to Republican Gov. Larry Hogan. The governor submitted a different map and has said he will veto one he believes is unfair. Democrats who have a supermajority in both chambers of the General Assembly control redistricting in the state. They backed a map approved 4-2 by a commission of legislative leaders that included four Democrats and two dissenting Republicans.

Democrats say the map makes improvements to the current one, but Republicans say it’s still badly gerrymandered.
